Sunday 24th April 6pm: Arena Theatre presents "A Midsummer Night's Dream"

This production is to Commemorate the 400th Anniversary of William Shakespeare's Death.

Arena Theatre was established in 1983 by John King, and Ian and Hayley Knight. Based in the Bournemouth Centre for Community Arts (BCCA) in Boscombe, we rapidly outgrew our home and moved to the 450-seat Regent Centre Theatre in Christchurch, where we’ve had a continuous presence for more than 15 years, covering every genre from kids’ shows and musicals to comedy, drama and Shakespeare.

shakespeare 2016.jpgArena have achieved dozens of awards for acting, direction, lighting, sound and effects since we began, and have also twice undertaken international exchange tours to Colorado, USA, performing ‘Teechers’, ‘Amadeus’ and ‘Oh! What a Lovely War’, in addition to one of our own celebrated Murder Mysteries.

Saturday 25th June 6pm The Wessex Actors presents Noel Coward's "Hay Fever"

Best described as a cross between high farce and a comedy of manners, Noel Cowards play is set in an English country house in the 1920s, and deals with the four eccentric members of the Bliss family and their outlandish behaviour when they each invite a guest to spend the weekend. Performed throughout Dorset in a mix of outside venues and theatres Hayfever is a comic masterpiece in the great tradition of high English comedy.

wessex actors.jpg
Wessex Actors Company (WAC) was founded by Jo Puttick with the initial aim of producing performances each summer in the open air; performed to a professional standard, principally in Dorset. Our intention is to give first class theatre as entertainment, whilst also enhancing audiences’ understanding and perception of the play being enjoyed. Working as our own separate theatre company will give us total freedom in the decisions we take on which plays to present, how they are presented and what age of costumes to dress them in. Actors will be experienced, local and professional, rather than being brought in from ‘outside’, as we believe there is so much local talent that deserves to be showcased.
